Our parent cooperative is dedicated to helping children, parents and teachers grow together.
EPC is a developmentally appropriate program with a cooperative philosophy of providing a learning environment for both parents and children. Under the guidance of a qualified Director, qualified teachers and a volunteer member board, each member will be actively involved in the school by assisting in the classroom, sharing in the business operations of the school, and by participating in ongoing educational programs, to ensure their child’s emotional, social and educational success and achievements. The length and frequency of school days is in line with the recommendations of early childhood educators as appropriate for the age of the children. Teacher-led group time is balanced with plenty of self-directed, hands-on experiences. The latter have been shown to allow the natural learning processes of children to occur. In a pre-planned “learning through play” environment children learn how to interact, problem-solve, and make decisions together. Parents, educators and researchers have found that children of these developmentally appropriate programs are not only ready for kindergarten, but also have developed a life-long love of learning.
Edgewood Preschool Cooperative is dedicated to creating an environment where children can grow according to their individual timetables, where each child is encouraged to learn through "thoughtful interaction" with materials and with each other, and where children build and construct knowledge as a result of this interaction. We encourage children to explore, question, and test hypotheses. We are a child-centered, success-oriented program. We are a Parent Cooperative dedicated to helping children, parents and teachers grow together.
A cooperative preschool is one in which the parents assume the responsibilities of the administration of the school. At EPC, children, parents, and teachers go to school together, each learning from one another. Parent participation is unique to our preschool. Parents act as teaching assistants under the guidance of a paid, professional teacher. Training is provided to the parent for their teacher's aide role. In addition, parents have the opportunity to receive ongoing parent education and serve on committees that help run the school.
EPC provides a healthful, safe and varied environment in which your child can grow socially, as well as physically, emotionally and mentally. Moreover, our preschool gives you the opportunity to see, be with and participate with your own child in a school setting. You will also see and work with other children the same ages as yours, which will allows awareness of the common needs and behavior patterns of children in these age groups. We provide ongoing parent education workshops that provide information about early childhood development, positive parenting, etc.
We are what we contribute. We receive what we give.
